We will focus on strategies and skills for communicating patient information effectively. We’ll explore communication and nursing techniques to promote accurate and efficient face-to-face and telephonic communication between nurses and their colleagues.

PART 1:

  • Ensuring mutual understanding and confirming accuracy of details
  • Using Active Listening Skills to manage conversations and eliminate confusion
  • Adjusting communication based on audience: nurse-colleagues, doctors and supervisors

PART 2:

  • What SBAR communication is and why it is important
  • Excellent SBAR nursing examples
  • How to effectively use SBAR in nursing
  • Other communications format examples

Cara is an adult education professional whose areas of expertise include language and communication, intercultural collaboration, and workplace integration.

Facilitator: Luciana Lima Dias da Cruz, RN BScN, CARE Centre Case Manager
Luciana, a Brazilian RN since 2007, has worked in education, community, and acute care. She received CARE Centre’s 2022 Joan Lesmond Award for her dedication to nursing and leadership in supporting IENs in Ontario.
