Nursing shortages are most severe in long-term care
(LTC) homes, impacting the quality of resident care and nurse safety. With international experience, multilingualism and cultural knowledge, internationally educated nurses (IENS) are equipped to advance this sector and improve elderly care delivery. This webinar will raise awareness of the LTC sector across Canada and encourage IENs to consider contributing their skills within this unique, over-looked sector.

Susan Hunt, CARE Centre’s Pre- and Post-Arrival Case Manager for the Atlantic provinces, is a Retired Licensed Practical Nurse with 37 years experience in various areas of nursing. Advanced Palliative Care, LTC, Occupational Health and Safety, Clinical Instructor, Community Nursing. Susan has worked as Nurse Manager from diverse New Brunswick long-term care homes, most recently Loch Lomond Villa and Shannex Parkland in the Valley & Parkland Saint John a 4 level Retirement, Assisted, LTC and Memory care. Managed Respite, Rehab & Re- enablement and Emergency bed placements.
With Eastern, Trios College Susan developed customized learning solutions for long-term care homes, retirement homes and in-home care agencies, helping to fill the demand for PSW and CCAs, while supporting employers to address challenging in recruiting and retaining qualified staff. From 2007 – 2010, Susan acted as Manager of Clinical Practice with Bayshore Health Solutions in Brockville, Ontario, where she was responsible for hiring and staff educational for PSWs and RPNs. In 2015, Susan was selected out of 5000+ LPNs to receive the “Licensed Practical Nurse Audrey D. Galbraith Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice,” in recognition delivering professional nursing care with commitment, excellence and caring above expectations.
Jeannie Hare, Alberta Mentor in CARE Centre’s Pre- and Post-Arrival Supports and Services Program, began her nursing career at the Calgary General Hospital I 1966, finishing at Mount Royal University in 1971. She worked in frontline nursing, mostly rural, in Prince Rupert, Calgary General, Drumheller Acute, Drumheller Penitentiary, Redwater, Radway, Two Hills, Northeast Centre in Edmonton and Senzin’s Clinic at University of Alberta. Jeannie worked her way from frontline nursing to Assistant Head Nurse, Head Nurse and Unit Manager. After 30 years of frontline, Jeannie also held 4 postings as travel nurse. Jeannie was a Provincial Councilor with the College and Association of Registered of Alberta (as it was called then) for 6 years and has been supporting PASS as a mentor since 2016. Jeannie is heavily involved in her community, volunteering at the Food Bank, art club, is a pianist at her church and is a Respite Worker fostering and caring for fragile babies. For 6 years, Jeannie has volunteered for the Red Cross Disaster Program and has been deployed 4 times to deal with fires, floors and other natural disasters. For the last 10 years, Jeannie has driven drives a 20-passenger bus for seniors.
