First IEN Conference Begins This Week!
The 1st Conference for IENs begins mid-week, with a full schedule including three panels on Thursday November the 27th. As well as opening remarks by Josette Roussel of the CNA and a keynote speech by Ontario Fairness Commissioner the Hon. Jean Augustine, there will be a range of concurrent and poster presentations during the day which will further inform the conference theme of IENs: Enhancing Canadian Healthcare. Bestselling nurse author opens IEN Conference
Individual tickets or conference registration are still available for the Wednesday evening reading and reception with internationally best-selling author and nurse Tilda Shalof. Shalof has written six books, including the internationally translated A Nurse’s Story. Tilda will speak about her experiences as a VON nurse in her new title Bringing it Home. Community nursing opened her eyes to the health concerns and problems of people from the very wealthy to the homeless on the street. Her more than two decades as a critical care nurse were the basis for her previous books, and that collective wisdom now informs this recounting of her new community nursing career. Find out more about Tilda at nursetilda.com.
Honouring Joan Lesmond with Two IENs of the Year
The late Dr. Joan Lesmond was an internationally educated professional who championed access to the nursing profession for her fellow nurses. On her passing in 2011, CARE Centre created the Joan Lesmond IEN of the Year Award to honour an outstanding IEN nominated by their healthcare colleagues. This year the award will be presented to two outstanding internationally educated nurses, one RN and one RPN, and CARE Centre is proud to announce two of the organization’s most dedicated volunteers, Ahmad Baki, RN and Adela Belisario, RPN, co-chair and co-MC of the conference, are this year’s winners. They will receive their awards at a lunchtime ceremony in their honour. More information on the award is available at care4nurses.org/ien-of-the-year-award.
