Health Teaching Part 1 & 2

This workshop focuses on a key aspect of nursing care in Canadian contexts: health teaching to clients. We’ll explore and practice strategies for communicating information clearly, efficiently and effectively empowering patients and promoting informed decision making.

PART 1: 10:00 – 12:00

  • Sharing information clearly and effectively, using accessible language
  • Strategies to verify clients’ knowledge and understanding
  • How to respond to questions, concerns, resistance and non-compliance
  • Contexts will include discharge instructions, pre-operative discussions and more!

PART 2: 12:30 – 14:30

  • A Nurse’s role in patient education
  • Patient education: A nursing process
  • Strategies to improve patient education and health teaching

Facilitator: Cara Malla
Cara is an adult education professional whose areas of expertise include language and communication, intercultural collaboration, and workplace integration.

Facilitator: Abigail Lim, RN Case Manager
Abigail has acquired nursing experience in both international and diverse healthcare settings. She has been a steadfast advocate for the seamless assimilation of IENs into the Canadian nursing workforce, showcasing her commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive healthcare community.
